JOSH MCCONKEY

Dr. (Colonel) Josh McConkey is a respected US Air Force Reserve Colonel, physician, and a passionate advocate for leadership and community service. He is running for Congress, committed to using his extensive military and medical experience to serve his constituents and strengthen our country.
Dr. McConkey's leadership philosophy is rooted in his over two decades of service in various leadership roles in the military. He understands the importance of strong leadership in achieving success and making a positive impact on people's lives. His leadership ethos, "Be the Weight Behind the Spear," emphasizes the importance of hard work, dedication, and a strong sense of purpose in achieving success.
As a physician, Dr. McConkey understands the importance of healthcare access and affordability for all Americans. He has seen firsthand the effects the opioid crisis has had across our country and is committed to working towards policies that will increase access to mental health and improve our healthcare system.
In 2007, he deployed to Iraq to provide medevac support as a flight surgeon, later transferring to the Air Force Reserves to train as a Critical Care Air Transport physician. In 2019, Josh promoted to Colonel while serving at the rescue squadron in Portland, Oregon. After moving to North Carolina in 2012, Josh served his fellow veterans at the VA hospital in Durham and as an assistant Professor at Duke University.
Josh and his wife, Elsa, have three children and now reside in Apex, North Carolina.
As a member of the United States Air Force Reserves, Josh has received the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medical, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal, and others.
